MARCH 12 • SPORTINGNEWS.COM
Signing with Indy Herbert is signing a one-year contract with the Colts, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Impact It's a friendly landing spot for Herbert, who fell out of favor in Chicago last season and then barely got playing time in Cincinnati until Chase Brown missed Week 18 with an ankle injury. Herbert started 12 of his 48 regular-season games in three-plus seasons with the Bears, averaging 4.8 yards on 372 carries and 6.5 yards on 45 receptions. He'll turn 27 in April and has a nice opportunity ahead, joining an Indianapolis offense that relied on Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson for depth behind Jonathan Taylor in 2024. The downside for Herbert is that there's zero opportunity to be the starter outside of an injury scenario, but that's to be expected after a disappointing 2024.
MARCH 12 • ROTOWIRE
Solid in spot start Saturday Herbert rushed 20 times for 69 yards and brought in seven of eight targets for 14 yards in the Bengals' 19-17 win over the Steelers on Saturday night.
Impact Herbert got the spot start with Chase Brown (ankle) sidelined and shouldered quite the heavy workload after having combined for just eight carries since arriving in Cincinnati via trade with the Bears. Herbert unsurprisingly found tough sledding on the ground against the Steelers, but he was a steady presence in the passing game and finished third on the team in receptions and targets. If the Bengals are able to make their way into the postseason with help Sunday, Herbert would be in line to draw another start in the wild-card round if Brown remains sidelined.
JANUARY 5 • ROTOWIRE
In line for leading role Saturday Herbert is in line to be the Bengals' primary running back Saturday in Pittsburgh with Chase Brown (ankle) inactive for that contest, Geoff Hobson of the team's official site repor...
Impact Brown won't suit up one week removed from spraining his right ankle during last Saturday's overtime win against the Broncos. Since joining the Bengals at the trade deadline, Herbert has received spot duty in seven consecutive games prior to this Week 18 matchup, turning eight carries into 45 yards (5.6 YPC) and gathering in his only target for seven yards. Considering Cincinnati's other available RBs on Saturday are Trayveon Williams (no touches in 16 games) and undrafted rookie Kendall Milton (one appearance this season), Herbert appears poised to operate as a workhorse for a high-powered offense.
JANUARY 5 • ROTOWIRE
Could be headed for increased role Herbert rushed the ball four times for 23 yards in Saturday's 30-24 overtime win over the Broncos.
Impact Chase Brown led the Bengals' backfield but suffered a sprained ankle late in the fourth quarter when he slid short of the end zone. That pushed Herbert into a substantial role in overtime, highlighted by a 13-yard rush to kick off Cincinnati's game-clinching drive. Herbert should lead the backfield in Week 18 against Pittsburgh if Brown is unable to suit up.
DECEMBER 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
No touches in win Herbert failed to record a single rushing attempt or target in Sunday's 24-6 win over the Browns.
Impact Herbert was a complete non-factor in Week 16, playing just two offensive snaps against the Browns. Fellow running back Chase Brown continues to handle the vast majority of Cincinnati's backfield workload, with Herbert providing little to no fantasy value outside of his role as an insurance policy behind Brown. The 26-year-old remains far off the fantasy radar heading into a Week 17 matchup against the Broncos.
DECEMBER 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Handles one carry in Week 15 Herbert rushed once for four yards in Sunday's 37-27 win over the Titans.
Impact Herbert continued to play an extremely small role in the Bengals' offense since being acquired by Cincinnati at the trade deadline. The veteran running back played just three of the Bengals' 69 offensive snaps Sunday, while Chase Brown played all but five snaps in the contest. Since joining the Bengals in Week 10, Herbert has attempted just four rushes and caught one pass. Barring an injury to Brown, the 26-year-old Herbert cannot be trusted in such a limited role to provide relevant fantasy production. He should be considered nothing more than an insurance policy behind Brown heading into a Week 16 matchup against the Browns.

Since joining the Bengals in Week 10, Herbert has attempted just four rushes and caught one pass. DECEMBER 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Stuck in small role on offense Herbert played seven of the Bengals' 71 snaps on offense and carried twice for four yards while adding a seven-yard reception in Monday's 27-20 win over the Cowboys.
Impact Though Herbert saw solid usage during his limited time on the field, he'll likely continue to handle a small role on offense while Chase Brown has emerged as a three-down workhorse out of the backfield. Herbert also brought back two kickoffs for 67 yards in the Week 14 win, but he'll likely cede those duties to Charlie Jones (groin) if the latter player is able to play Sunday at Tennessee.
DECEMBER 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
One carry in loss Herbert rushed once for 14 yards in Sunday's 44-38 loss to the Steelers.
Impact Herbert's one carry Sunday was his first since joining the Bengals at the trade deadline. The 26-year-old running back played just six offensive snaps against the Steelers after playing a total of six offensive snaps across his first two appearances. With such limited usage behind lead back Chase Brown, Herbert remains nothing more than an insurance policy for fantasy purposes. As the season progresses, it's possible the fourth-year back could continue to see his snap percentage gradually increase if the Bengals decide to lighten Brown's workload down the stretch. Herbert will look to get more involved when the Bengals visit the Cowboys in Week 14.
DECEMBER 4, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Plays four offensive snaps in loss Herbert failed to record a single rushing attempt or target in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Chargers.
Impact Herbert was not a part of the Bengals' offensive game plan Sunday, as the veteran running back still has yet to see a single touch on offense for Cincinnati. Herbert did, however, gain 29 yards on his only kick return in the contest. It's possible that the 26-year-old may still be taking time to get acclimated into the Bengals' offense, but it is surprising to see such limited playing time for a player that the Bengals traded for ahead of the trade deadline. Meanwhile, fellow running back Chase Brown has continued to see a massive workload as Cincinnati's lead back. Herbert will look get more involved in the offense when the Bengals come out of their Week 12 bye to face the Steelers on Dec. 1.
NOVEMBER 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sees just two snaps in team debut Herbert didn't record a carry or a target in Thursday's Week 10 loss to Baltimore.
Impact Herbert joined Cincinnati in a trade between the Bengals and Bears on Tuesday, and he was able to suit up just two days later. However, Herbert didn't make the best first impression, as he couldn't grasp the ball on a handoff from QB Joe Burrow in the second quarter. The fumble was questionably charged to Burrow, and Herbert was credited with the recovery after he fell on top of the ball, but that was essentially the extent of Herbert's involvement in the contest (he logged just one other snap). The fourth-year running back has a chance to grow into a significantly larger role once he gets more accustomed to the Bengals' playbook, especially with Zack Moss (neck) landing on injured reserve Tuesday, but Chase Brown figures to remain heavily involved after tallying 94 total yards from scrimmage and scoring a touchdown in Thursday's loss.
NOVEMBER 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Active versus Baltimore Herbert is active for Thursday night's game against the Ravens.
Impact Though he just joined the Bengals on Tuesday in a trade with the Bears, Herbert has absorbed enough of his new team's offense to enter the backfield mix in short order. In his new locale, Herbert will help fill the void created by the absence of Zack Moss (neck), who is on IR and could miss the rest of season. In that context, Herbert is in line to step into a complementary role behind Chase Brown that should grow as the season progresses.
NOVEMBER 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
On track to play Thursday Herbert is expected to play Thursday night against the Ravens, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Per Fowler, Herbert, who joined the Bengals on Tuesday via a trade with the Bears, worked aggressively over the past few days to get up to speed with his new team's offense, paving the way for him to step right into the lineup in Week 10. With Zack Moss (neck) on IR and a candidate to miss the rest of season, Herbert is slated to step into a complementary role in a backfield led by Chase Brown. It remains to be seen how heavy a workload he'll see in his anticipated debut with Cincinnati, but in his new locale Herbert could end up seeing enough volume as the season progresses to resurface on the fantasy radar.
